Important

  • Make the Before/After gallery public: open https://claude.ai/artifact/9C4KR1FFqbhMygJVTGe5eQ and turn on its public link in the Share menu. Until then only you can open it.
  • The commit trailer names Claude Opus 5.5, the model that wrote it. Change it if you want another.

Why. The FastTools window was text-heavy and inconsistent: legends, hints and counters competed with the cards, short actions mixed gradient bands and plain buttons, badges did not match the rest of the design, and a narrow window broke names mid-word.

What

  • TabWindow keeps one view per tab and switches it by display, drives tabs from one table, hides key hints when a title does not fit, and runs the dot background only while the window is watched. Theme tokens gain Project / Per-user scope colours, and status text matches the docs site.
  • Asset References: every object gets a folding heading with its icon, empty optional fields are one-line rows in field order, Orphaned is a plain section with a Clear band, a shared reference is a dot plus a muted "shared", and Smart Fix / Migrate name the target with its namespace. The prefab-instance notice holds Open Source Prefab.
  • Project References: Broken, Required, Prefab instance overrides and Renamed headings replace the colour legend. Required and override entries get one card per file with its entry count, a file row shows "rid N" or "N rids", and Fix all / Reassign all take the card's status colour. In a narrow window names and counts end with an ellipsis, and Smart Fix / Migrate are cut in the middle.
  • Settings: violet and gray stripes mark Project and Per-user settings, every control and button sits in one 200 px column at the right, the description rows are gone (tooltips explain each setting), and Excluded scan folders is a framed list.
  • The icon of an empty Asset References or Project References tab is pinned to the middle of the tab, so it no longer jumps between tabs.

Start with: Aspid.FastTools/Packages/tech.aspid.fasttools/Editor/Scripts/Windows/TabWindow.cs, then Editor/Scripts/Windows/References/Project/SerializeReferenceProjectView.Cards.cs and Editor/Scripts/Windows/References/Asset/SerializeReferenceGraphView.Cards.cs.

Verification
  • C# compile on Unity 6000.6.5f1 and the 6000.0.64f1 floor → 0 errors
  • Full EditMode suite on 6000.6.5f1 → 2230 passed, 1 skipped, 0 failed (public API snapshot unchanged)
  • New tests: same-name type qualification (SerializeReferenceAuditUITests), GroupByFile / DescribeRids, one visible view per tab and view reuse (EditorWindowSmokeTests)
  • dotnet test Aspid.FastTools.YamlTests → 242 passed
  • check-contrast.mjs → 110/110 pairs, including the scope stripes and the framed folder list; check-package-files, check-version, check-unity-minimum, check-skills, node --test scripts/*.test.mjs → pass
  • Site: check-readme, check-translations, npm test, npm run build → pass
  • Every window state captured at 760, 360 and 1400 pt on both skins in a hidden batch Editor, Before on main and After on this branch; edges and empty-state icon positions measured

Before / After

Every window state at full size, on the dark and the light skin, Before (main at 6e5dfd1) and After (this branch), with a side-by-side mode: https://claude.ai/artifact/9C4KR1FFqbhMygJVTGe5eQ

Make the window lighter and consistent across tabs:

- TabWindow keeps one view per tab, drives tabs from one table, hides
key hints that do not fit and animates the dots only while watched.
- Asset References: object headings with icons, empty optional fields
as one-line rows in place, Orphaned as a plain section with a Clear
band, a dot marker for shared references, namespaced Smart Fix and
Migrate targets, Open Source Prefab inside the prefab notice.
- Project References: Broken / Required / Prefab instance overrides /
Renamed sections instead of the legend, one card per file for
required and override entries, "rid N" or "N rids" per file, status
coloured Fix all, ellipsis instead of mid-word wraps when narrow.
- Settings: Project / Per-user stripes, one 200 px control column for
fields and buttons, tooltips instead of description rows, a framed
  excluded-folders list.
- The empty-tab icon is pinned to the middle of the tab.

Verdict: 0 blocking, 4 minor
The main concern: Project References now builds one card per file for Required violations and overrides, with no limit across files, so a large project draws far more than the old 200-row page. Everything else is comment cleanup.

Required and override sections built one card per file with no limit,
so a field required in thousands of prefabs built thousands of cards.
Show 50 file cards, then a Show more files row, sharing the Show more
logic with the row paging. Also drop the Initialize loop over empty
summaries and fix two stale comments.

* docs: reshoot the reference tooling images after the window redesign

- Reshoot the Project References, Required, prefab override, Asset References and Settings stills and the tooling GIF, dark and light, on main after #442
- Reshoot the four tooling source frames and rewrite their README; drop the stale screen-capture scripts
- Name the Migrate all and type-name Smart Fix targets with their namespace, as the window now does

* docs: update the tooling encode.sh header comment
