Thanks for the mention. I forked Snowfall Lib because upstream was not being updated regularly, and I track upstream issues to keep my fork working across current and future Nix updates. I consider the project feature-complete, so users should not expect new features unless something is genuinely worth adding.

The fork is AI-first: I do not write most of the Nix code myself, but I have built extensive gates for my agents and verify changes end-to-end. I understand that approach is not for everyone; the project works for me, and others are welcome to use it. I am open to feedback, issues, and PRs, but I review them in my free time.

Hello there :D I'll be writing on behalf of Uzinfocom Open Source representing the department here.

We have been maintaining a fork (Xinux) of Snowfall since the past year to provide localized version of the distro with lots of modifications for the citizens of Uzbekistan to replace pirated Windows hosts with Linux (and it's still WIP to be honest). We apologize a lot for keeping things within fork instead of mainstreaming everything, as this is what we were required of and we weren't sure if Snowfall maintainers would be happy with the modifications we did. The project is truly astounding and it has eased a lot for us at the beginning when we were only getting started, for which we are truly grateful for. We would love to see Snowfall keep going and thriving and also be able to help if we can somehow. We have things that we can push to mainstream and even join maintainers to help with maintenance. However, there are concerns that we need to make sure before we get started:

• Are Snowfall maintainers OK with us, a team of developers employed by Uzbek government contributing to the project? I'm asking this because Nix community tends to be against corpos or gov associated orgs to contribute to projects.
• Can we provide infra to support the project? Like hydra we have at hydra.xinux.uz or anything else? This would help us and probably Snowfall maintainers to speed up development and provide artifacts without billing, it's all inda house.
• How can we agree on what to mainstream and what not?
• Can we and if yes, how can we financially support this project?

Few things to note:

• We tend to avoid AI (or LLM) assisted contributions, more here.
