Record the base revision each VM was actually cloned from and the setup revision its finalize pass applied, in the provider's provenance marker (schema v4), so local Lima, remote Lima and Proxmox report the same thing. The source revision is captured inside the clone lock; setup is recorded only after finalize succeeds, so a failed build never claims it. VMs created before this have no history and report "unknown" rather than a guess. Each settled tile shows "base update available", "setup update available" or "versions unknown" with the existing R reset, and the new read-only `sand updates NAME [--json]` reports the same states. Nothing reruns provisioning automatically; an explicit reset is the update path. Golden templates now carry their source VM's recorded base revision instead of being stamped with the current playbook at snapshot time, so a template made from an old VM no longer reads as current. Progress writes go through a serialized MarkProgress so a late progress update cannot erase a completed marker's revisions. Replace the five copies with one revisionCapture helper, and test it and the Lima completion write directly; markCompleted previously had no coverage.
