RabbitMQ version compatibility issue with the current ARS setup #893
The current ARS (Relay) requirements specify Celery 5.5.3, while the Docker command in the setup instructions:
docker run -d -p 5672:5672 rabbitmq
pulls the latest RabbitMQ image, which currently installs RabbitMQ 4.3.6.
With RabbitMQ 4.3.6, the Celery worker fails when declaring the queue with the following error:
amqp.exceptions.InternalError: Queue.declare: (541) INTERNAL_ERROR -
Feature transient_nonexcl_queues is deprecated.
By default, this feature is not permitted anymore.
This appears to be a RabbitMQ compatibility issue. The Relay project appears to have been developed/tested against RabbitMQ 3.13, as rabbitmq:3.13 is referenced in the project's test configuration.
Using the following Docker command resolves the queue declaration issue:
docker run -d --name rabbitmq -p 5672:5672 rabbitmq:3.13
Suggested fix
One of the following could be updated to make the required RabbitMQ version explicit:
Update the README/setup instructions to pin RabbitMQ to the compatible version:
docker run -d --name rabbitmq -p 5672:5672 rabbitmq:3.13
or
Update the project's dependency/configuration requirements if a newer RabbitMQ version is intended to be supported.
Pinning the RabbitMQ version in the setup instructions would likely be the simplest way to ensure a new developer gets a compatible environment and avoids pulling the latest RabbitMQ release automatically.
