Newsletter resource suggestion: evaluating DNA and RNA foundation models #50
The open-bioinformatics angle is the practical record needed to evaluate a model: versioned checkpoints and preprocessing, biological data splits, disclosed alignment/template retrieval, and separate code, weight, and dataset availability. Both articles distinguish computational scores from the experimental endpoints they may help predict.
Suggested newsletter blurb:
“Two rewire.it guides examine how to evaluate DNA and RNA foundation models by their inputs, biological targets, validation splits, and available artifacts. They cover common pitfalls such as calling a trained probe zero-shot, treating a long context window as demonstrated biological dependence, and interpreting predicted RNA structure as evidence of function.”
