Description

Remove the Slack and Virtual Meetings cards from the marketing support page, and direct course staff to Get help in PrairieLearn for Slack community access and weekly office hours. Preserve the existing /slack invitation shortcut for people who share it directly.

  • Remove the virtual-meetings page, including its old workshop registration link, and redirect /support/virtual-meetings to /support.
  • Keep /slack pointing to its original Slack invitation, preserving existing bookmarks and links in older blog posts.
  • Preserve documentation, examples, GitHub Discussions, contact/email, and other support options. Place the Slack/office-hours guidance below the Contact us, Schedule a demo, and Request a course cards, immediately above the resource cards starting with Get Started. The resource cards use two columns on desktop and one on mobile.

Before deploying this marketing change, configure both production support URLs (supportSlackUrl and supportOfficeHoursUrl) via sysconf #3330 and deploy PrairieLearn Get help #15859. Verify the authenticated support links work. Coordinate rollout with the equivalent PrairieTest help support so PT-only staff, including center administrators without PrairieLearn instructor access, can find these channels.

AI assistance: Codex performed the implementation and validation.

Testing

  • pnpm lint and git diff --check passed after the paragraph move.
  • Inspected the current support page on desktop and at 375px mobile width: the paragraph follows the complete contact/demo/course-request group and precedes Get Started, with spacing above and below and no horizontal overflow.
  • The /slack invitation shortcut and /support/virtual-meetings support-page redirect are unchanged by this layout update.

I don't necessarily like this. What about folks who only use PT, either because they use it with another LMS, or because they're center administrators that don't actually have instructor access to any courses? What do we gain by trying to keep this a secret?

I'll open a PT PR to add corresponding links there for signed in users.

@mfsilva22 requested this after meeting with the marketing group. She wants to keep slack and office hours links off the public web. I believe the thinking is that, although we haven't seen abuse of this so far by students, job applicants, etc, it's only a matter of time. Additionally, the belief is that it's very rare for users to find these links from the marketing website, and it will be more useful for them to have links inside the app.

If you still feel that removing the Slack link is best, I won't block this.

Unsure about retaining this now that the Slack link is gone, this makes it seem like our only support venues are email and Discussions when in fact we want to steer as much to Slack as possible. I remain uneasy about removing the Slack link.

We have an extra line saying "For Slack community access and weekly office hours, course staff can log in to PrairieLearn and select Get help." -- I moved this to between the "Contact us" and "Getting started" boxes, which I think provides a little more guidance there.

As you said earlier, I think we are going to revisit all of this soon in any case.
