gbemu

Game Boy emulator I've been building for a few months in C++ and SDL2. Started it to understand how the hardware actually works, ended up going deeper than expected.

Linux only for now. The plan is to eventually support more consoles N64, PS1, maybe one day even the Switch (please Nintendo, don't sue me) but that's a long road.

Dependencies

Ubuntu/Debian:

sudo apt install cmake libsdl2-dev libsdl2-ttf-dev libsdl2-image-dev libcurl4-openssl-dev

Arch:

sudo pacman -S cmake sdl2 sdl2_ttf sdl2_image curl

Build

git clone https://github.com/raveec/gbemu
cd gbemu
make
./build/gbemu

Opens roms/ by default. You can pass a different path:

./build/gbemu ~/my-games

Controls

Key Action
Arrow keys D-pad
Z / X A / B
Enter Start
Backspace Select
P Pause / resume

Roadmap

  • Game Boy / Game Boy Color

  • PlayStation 1
  • Nintendo Switch (please Nintendo, don't sue me)
