Follow-on from #541 for #536 - adding more link and a softer introduction with the WHY before we delve into HOW. I think this is very important use case because it shows how a profile is used both for exchange and also consistent search/display UI that hides RO-Crate.

could @lubianat @kkyoda @sherwoodf check? I will also need permission for including the gide-metadata-export-pipeline.png image, from https://founding-gide.eurobioimaging.eu/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/GIDE-metadata-export-pipeline-1536x371.webp as used on https://founding-gide.eurobioimaging.eu/biological-imaging-gide-stack/

foundingGIDE enables researchers to search across heterogeneous image data repositories (BioImage Archive, Image Data Resource and SSBD), by harvesting RO-Crate export of these repositories' metadata, indexing them and listing these in the [GIDE:BioImaging search portal](https://www.gide-project.org/portal). Faceted search is facilitated from the metadata.

Because all the indexed RO-Crates are following the [GIDE RO-Crate profile](https://www.gide-project.org/ro-crate/search/1.0/profile) (which can be validated with [BIA RO-Crate validator](https://pypi.org/project/bia-ro-crate-validator/)), the user interface is able to give domain-specific filtering and display of the metadata, without exposing their technical implementation.

I think I need to double check (@sherwoodf) if the https://pypi.org/project/bia-ro-crate-validator/ also works for GIDE. The BioImageArchive has also a separate RO-Crate pipeline

No, i'm afraid that's a different spec!

I'm pretty sure I created that diagram and i'm happy for you to re-use it! Let me know if you want a different version - i can dig up the original copy.
