Individual adjustments made from the copied adjustments not applies after exporting #22355
I checked and did not find my issue in the already reported ones
Describe the bug
I copied the changes I made on a single photo, copied and applied (copy paste) it to other photos no problem. But when I exported all the photos (705 photos) with the adjustments I made, I noticed it did not apply the changes I made instead it exported the same settings from the original single photo to the other photos. Unfortunately I am unable to screenshot this because every time I pull up the snipping tool darktable minimizes it. Is there an issue with exporting multiple photos?
Steps to reproduce
Alt + A (select all)
clicked export and waited to complete
Expected behavior
darktable should apply the individual adjustments made on each photo from a copied setting

darktable.org / GitHub release
darktable version
5.6.1
What OS are you using?
Windows
What is the version of your OS?
windows 10
Describe your system
i5 12th gen
16GB RAM
4gb graphics card
1TB storage
Are you using OpenCL GPU in darktable?
yes
If yes, what is the GPU card and driver?
GTX 1650 super 4GB
Please provide additional context if applicable. You can attach files too, but might need to rename to .txt or .zip
Your steps to reproduce and overall issue is not clear. You edited an image, then copy and paste what modules? When you open an image with the pasted development, how does it look in the darkroom?
Are you a new user to darktable? If yes, then I suggest getting help in Pixls.us since this doesn't sound like a bug.

It looked the same after pasting the adjustments such as exposure, tone equilizer, local contrast, color calibration, velvia, color balance rgb, haze removal, lens correction, denoise, etc

I've been using darktable since version 4.0 if my memory serves me right
maybe, but to get someone to invest their time, you have to provide
specific steps/actions you preform and perhaps a raw image and
accompanying xmp file so they do not have to guess what you are doing.
@blackzerotype seriously, that answer to @gi-man wasn't nice. He asked various questions. Instead of answering someone trying to help you are reacting poorly.
Can you provide a screencast? To debug issues like yours it is often helpful to know exactly what modules are affected. E.g. try reducing the copy-paste to individual modules or changes and see if that changes things.
And Yes: Please provide raw+xmp of the source image you copied from and raw+xmp of one of the images copied to so we can look into it.
Maybe someone helpful should reply to this chat.

I edited one photo and apply the usual adjustments such as exposure, local contrast, color adjustment, etc. I copied these adjustments and pasted it to other photos. When I completed all edited photos I selected them all and exported them just like what we do. When I checked the edited photos in a separate folder I created, I noticed some of them are not what they supposed to look. Some are overexposed. When I went back to darktable (darkroom) I noticed that the tweaks I made from the original photo I edited and copied and pasted the settings were not copied and/or saved for some strange reason. I ended up going back and reedited those overexposed photos and re-exported them. I'd like to send screenshot to support this but unfortunately every time I pull up the snipping tool, darktable also minimizes it. I don't know any workaround. Does this make sense?

What exactly did you see when you entered darkroom. Were the pasted modules visible in the history stack?

Thats the focus-stealing-bug - fortunately fixed for 5.6.2.
The export is not the important parts of the issue. It going to darkroom showed no edits, then the copy/paste steps had an issue.

My thinking, too!
I see all the modules in darkroom and haven't checked the history stack. But I do noticed that the tweaks I made inside darkroom was not saved for some reason. Nothing unusual that I can think of.

The history stack would be an important pointer. If the history stack looks like it did on import I would suspect there probably was a mistake in selecting the photos while pasting. Did you by chance use a combination of STRG+Clicking and Shift-Clicking in the lightroom?

When I copy a photos settings, I usually click the copy button from the lightable view at the right side and then a list of the adjustments will show (you have the option to include or exclude some modules), I chose select all button and clicked Ok. Then I selected photos that I wanted those adjustments to be applied. After selecting, I clicked on the Paste button and the same list of modules that I chose will show and clicked Ok.
Could it be possible that during copy the mouse hover on an image without your changes? Therefore it copied the wrong settings?
I do event photography, so I use the copy and paste function. I turned off the hover to avoid this problem. I also look at the Lightroom images to see them refresh/update as they are being processed.

Act on hover - the actions are performed on the image the mouse pointer is hovering and NOT on the image selected. This feature is the default for dt for a while and it could be turned off in preferences.

how are you doing this step? Are you using the lighttable? Selective copy and selective paste? Lua script?

oh ok
anoderay commentedon Sep 22, 2026
Though if you hover a selection of multiple images it should act on the selection.
I love this feature of darktable but it can be very confusing if one is not used to it.
gi-man commentedon Sep 22, 2026
@anoderay I was more concerned on the copy part, since it is a single image.
blackzerotype commentedon Sep 22, 2026
I just noticed it on my recent export. In the past edits and exports it did not happen.

Tried to reproduce. Included a crop in my edited image so that it would be obvious when I pasted.
