fix(core): parse and rewrite env files in linear time - #632
Reading an existing .env file before merging pulled secrets took quadratic time on long runs of blank lines: a 200 KB file of blank lines took about 100 s, in both the CLI and the GitHub Action. The parser (EnvFileParser.ts, a copy of dotenv's LINE regex) and the regex saveEnvironment uses to rewrite the file now run in linear time, and every file reads and updates exactly as before.
Upgrading dotenv would not fix this: the runtime no longer calls dotenv, and dotenv 18.0.9 keeps the same regex by default (its new fast parser is opt-in).
Changes
EnvFileParser.ts and ASSIGNMENT_PATTERN in FileVariableStore.ts: the blanks before a key no longer cross a line break (\s* becomes [^\S\n\r ]*). With \s*, every blank line started a match attempt that rescanned the whole run of blank lines after it. The attempt that starts on the key's own line captures the same key, value and span.
ASSIGNMENT_PATTERN: the unquoted value is now (?:[^\S\r\n]*[^#\s])*? instead of [^#\r\n]*?, so its lazy steps only happen after a non-blank character. The old form rescanned the rest of a long run of spaces at each step (for example A=x + 200k spaces + y). A run of blanks can only end a value where the run begins, so the match is the same.
detectStructuralNewline: removed the branch that kept line breaks inside the prefix, because the prefix can no longer contain one.
Version 0.17.2, with CLI and GHA changelog entries. The GitHub Action bundle is rebuilt.
Testing
pnpm test passes for the variable store (176 tests). In the full run, tests/iac/lib/stacks/publicFilesStack.test.ts failed once and passes on its own (4/4). It doesn't touch this code.
tsc --noEmit, biome check on the changed files, secretlint and pnpm verify:gha pass.
New tests: getEnvironment on about 200 KB of blank lines between keys, and saveEnvironment on LF blank lines, CRLF blank lines, and 200k spaces inside a value. Each must finish in under 1 s and give the right values. Before this change, 20k blank lines alone took 1.08 s to parse.
New parser cases compare against dotenv.parse on blank and indented lines and on runs of U+2028, to show the output didn't change.
Fourteen 200 KB worst-case inputs (LF, CRLF, CR, U+2028, space-only lines, export lines, keys with no separator, long space runs) now take 0 to 6 ms to parse and 4 to 24 ms to save.

Bug Fixes
Reading and updating large .env files now scales linearly, including files with long runs of blank lines or values containing long runs of spaces.
Parsing and update results remain unchanged, including handling of indented entries and Unicode line separators.
Release
Updated the CLI and GitHub Actions integrations to version 0.17.2.
The env file parser copied from dotenv let every blank line start a
match attempt that rescanned the whole whitespace run after it, so a
file of blank lines took quadratic time (about 100 s for 200 KB). The
rewrite pattern had the same leading blanks, plus a lazy unquoted value
that rescanned long runs of spaces on a single line.
Leading blanks now stop at a line break and the unquoted value only
stops after a non-blank character. Both capture the same key, value
and span as before; dotenv 18 keeps the old grammar, so upgrading
would not help.

Walkthrough
The parser and file store now limit whitespace matching in .env files. Tests cover parsing equivalence and performance on large files. The CLI and GitHub Actions changelogs document the changes in version 0.17.2.
The parser limits leading whitespace to characters other than line breaks. Equivalence tests cover blank and indented lines, including Unicode line separators.
File-store matching and release records src/envilder/core/infrastructure/variableStore/FileVariableStore.ts, tests/envilder/core/infrastructure/variableStore/fileVariableStore.test.ts, docs/changelogs/cli.md, docs/changelogs/gha.md, package.json
The file store narrows assignment matching and blanks full assignment spans during structural-newline detection. Performance tests cover large blank-line runs and whitespace values. The changelogs describe the update, and the package version changes to 0.17.2.
macalbert/envilder#527: Introduced parseEnvFile and assignment rules that accept / in keys, which the parser and rewrite patterns continue to use.

Explanation
No changed file is under src/envilder/core/domain/ or src/envilder/core/application/. The changed source files are under src/envilder/core/infrastructure/variableStore/, which the check does not restrict. Therefore, no explicit architecture-boundary failure condition is introduced.

Explanation
The PR changes runtime logic in src/envilder/core/infrastructure/variableStore/EnvFileParser.ts and FileVariableStore.ts. It also changes tests under tests/envilder/core/infrastructure/variableStore/: parser equivalence cases and linear-time regression tests for blank lines and long whitespace runs. The custom check therefore passes.

The previous parser can consume these blank lines as trailing whitespace from A and B. This test can therefore pass without the fix. Put a long blank-line run between two comments to exercise repeated failed matches.

Right after an assignment, the old parser's trailing blanks swallowed the
whole run in one match, so the tests could pass without the fix. Between
comments, every blank line starts a fresh attempt, which is the slow
path. The rewrite cases now compare the written text, since dotenv
itself is quadratic on these files.
