fix: wait for a chunk's css on every dynamic import - #320

Conversation
Vite's preload helper only makes the dynamic import that inserts a stylesheet wait for it to load, so another import needing that stylesheet while it loads (eg a lazy template imported again) resolved early and rendered unstyled. Patch the helper during the build to share the pending load with every caller until it settles; the patch leaves a helper of any other shape untouched. Navigate logical layers of code changes, visualize relationships, and explore their blast radius. WalkthroughThe change adds and registers a build-only Vite plugin that patches the preload helper. The patch shares pending stylesheet loads across repeated imports, resolves when the stylesheet loads, rejects when it errors, and clears the recorded load after settlement. Tests cover these behaviors and verify that unrecognized helper code is not patched. Priority: ⬇️ Low Severity of issue fixed: Low Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to Dynamic imports now wait for their stylesheet even when it is already loading, which fixes templates rendering unstyled on repeat imports. The remaining risk is small. The patch assumes a helper variable exists without checking for it, so a future Vite minor release could break CSS-bearing dynamic imports instead of safely skipping the patch. Tightening that check is a quick follow-up; otherwise the change is mergeable. 🚥 Pre-merge checks | ✅ 4 | ❌ 1❌ Failed checks (1 warning)

Also require the injected identifier isCss before patching.
The inserted statement reads isCss. The guard on Line 32 checks only seenCheckReg and appendLinkReg. If a future Vite 8 minor release renames or inlines isCss but keeps both anchors, the plugin still patches the helper. Every dynamic import with a CSS dependency then throws ReferenceError: isCss is not defined. That breaks the promise that an unexpected helper shape stays untouched. The peer range vite: ^8 allows such minor releases. The build test only covers the Vite version installed in this repo.
Use the helper's existing if (isCss) { return new Promise(...) } block after appendChild(link) as the anchor. Replace that block with the shared load. The guard then also checks isCss, and each link gets one pair of listeners instead of two.

Vite's preload helper records a stylesheet as
seenbefore it loads, and only the dynamic import that inserted the<link>waits for itsloadevent. Any other import needing that stylesheet while it is still loading (a lazy template imported again, a router prefetch followed by the render import, or chunks sharing split css) resolves as soon as its JavaScript is ready, so the content it renders paints unstyled. This adds a small build plugin that patches the generated
\0vite/preload-helper.jsso the pending load is shared with every caller until the stylesheet settles (failures reject every waiting import), after which later imports keep Vite's fast path. The patch matches two anchors in the helper and leaves any other shape untouched, so it stops applying on its own if Vite changes the helper. The test captures the helper from the installed Vite and runs it against a stub DOM; a real Chromium build with delayed css showed the second import unstyled without the plugin and styled with it.🤖 Generated with Claude Code
