Element Properties
These are options that allow you to compensate for print gain or print loss resulting from the properties of the printing process or substrate.
For linear barcodes, the amount by which to reduce the bar widths to compensate for inkspread, as a fraction of the X-dimension.
For matrix barcodes, the amount by which to reduce the width and height of dark modules to compensate for inkspread, as a fraction of the module size.
For MaxiCode, the amount by which to reduce the width and height of hexagons and the thickness of the finder pattern rings to compensate for inkspread, as a fraction of the module pitch. The hexagons are drawn 0.12mm narrower than the module pitch, as the specification requires, before any inkspread is applied.
- Negative values will increase the bar width.
- When strictspec is enabled, inkspread is automatically adjusted so that the physical reduction (in mm) remains constant regardless of magnification.

Options: inkspread=0.6

For matrix barcodes, the amount by which to reduce the width of dark modules to compensate for inkspread, in points.
Note: inkspreadh is most useful for stacked-linear type barcodes such as PDF417 and Codablock F.
Data: Aztec
Options: inkspreadh=0.5
Encoder: azteccode
For matrix barcodes, the amount by which to reduce the height of dark modules to compensate for inkspread, in points.

Options: inkspreadv=0.5
Encoder: ultracode
For matrix barcodes, render the modules as dots rather than squares. The dot radius can be adjusted using the inkspread option.
When gridfit is enabled, each dot is a disc of whole device pixels: the largest that keeps diagonally adjacent dots apart, reduced by the inkspread.
Data: DOTTY
Options: dotty inkspread=-0.2 height=2 width=2

For linear barcodes, scales the width of the bars that are wider than one module, which sets the ratio of wide to narrow bars in symbologies such as Code 39, Codabar and Interleaved 2 of 5. A bar of n modules is drawn (n - 1) x barratio + 1 modules wide, so a narrow bar is unchanged and a wide bar of 3 modules becomes 2 modules at barratio=0.5 and 2.5 modules at barratio=0.75. Default: 1 (the symbology's own widths).
- Values from 0.1 to 5 are accepted.
- Use it with spaceratio to set the wide-to-narrow ratio of bars and spaces alike, such as to make a symbol narrower. The symbology's standard sets the ratios it permits: Code 39 (ISO/IEC 16388), for example, permits 2:1 to 3:1, and at least 2.2:1 where the X-dimension is below 0.5 mm.
- A non-integer barratio disables gridfit.
A Code 39 with a 2.5:1 wide-to-narrow ratio:
Data: TEZ
Options: barratio=0.75 spaceratio=0.75
Encoder: code39
For linear barcodes, scales the width of the spaces that are wider than one module, in the same way as barratio does for bars. A space of n modules is drawn (n - 1) x spaceratio + 1 modules wide. Default: 1.
- Values from 0.1 to 5 are accepted.
